Here and There

Each month, this congregation sends contributions to several Children’s Homes in our brotherhood. And in each case, we receive a letter of acknowledgement and thanks for that contribution. This past week in a letter from the Medina Children’s Home, we also received a photo print of the children who have been baptized since the first of the year. You will find that posted on the bulletin board in the foyer, the one with our mission points. We congratulate them and the home for their teaching and influence for bringing these young people into the faith. Let’s continue to pray for their success.

Last week, we mentioned a new address for Myrtle Brunton in Corsicana and that address was partly in error. Her correct address is 4003 West 4th Street. Please make a note of this and drop her a cheerful card.

Don’t forget, David Nelson and his wife will be with us next Sunday, June 17. He will be bringing us a report on the work in New Zealand and will preach for us at the morning service. I purposefully picked this Sunday because it was the only one available when his wife could be with him. We missed having her with us on his last visit. David, of course, is the nephew of our dear departed sister Louise Lawrence and Agnes Nelson. We hope to have a sizable number of the Nelson clan with us for this visit.

It was my privilege this week to do the grave side service for someone whom many of you may remember. Her name was Gwen Wade and her husband Howard who served as an elder at the Western Heights congregation along with Ralph Churchill. It was an honor getting acquainted with this family and knowing of all the connections Gwen had with many of us. My connection was through her daughter, Lana who was a member of the Trinity Oaks church when I served there. She was very proud of her parents and their connection with the church. She was raised in the Western Heights congregation.
I called Ralph Churchill and told him of the funeral and then mailed him a copy of the obituary. I also sent him a copy of the newspaper article about the old house on Ft. Worth Ave. that was to be given to anyone who would move it to a new location. I know seeing that article brought back numerous memories that were of the “precious” variety. Ralph sends his loving regards to all.

On Tuesday evening, June 19, we will have our next Keenagers. I believe we will have a great time with Charlie and Nadine’s grandson bringing us a slide presentation about a trip he made recently.

“The Transfiguration of Jesus,” will be the topic to be presented on “In Search of the Lord’s Way,” this coming Sunday, June 17. You can view this program by turning to Channel 27, KDFI-TV.
I also have been told that many of you have been seeing The Search on Channel 99, but I’m not sure of the time available. You might like to check it out.
We also recommend your watching the program that follows The Search on Channel 27, called “The Truth In Love,” with Eddie Parish doing the preaching.
