Here and There

Thank you for allowing us to be away for a relaxing trip to west Texas for a visit with my two sisters and Alma Faye’s sister in Abilene. We enjoyed being with them and reflecting on times past, memories of our parents (including a trip to the cemetery where my parents are buried) and being reminded of how much better off we are now than in those “olden days.”
We also had the privilege of visiting on Friday morning in Lubbock with Louise Gerner and her sister, Laura Wood. They were expecting that our visit would be in the hospital, but thankfully, her doctor said that she did not need to be readmitted to the hospital. We met them at a restaurant and enjoyed a delicious meal along with a couple of hours of visiting.
As always, it was good to get back home and we are looking forward to being with you for worship today.
Thanks to Paul Lawrence for his excellent lesson on Sunday afternoon. And of course, David Nelson was highly complimented for his message. Thanks to him and to Ann Taylor, a great host of visitors were present. And thanks to Tom Duvall for covering my class for me.

Turn to Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m. for the lesson on “In Search of the Lord’s Way,: on Sunday morning, July 1.
The lesson is based on a well known passage in Proverbs 14:34, which says, “Righteousness exalts a nation…” Since God said it, it must be true. How else could thirteen struggling colonies rise to be the sole world power of the late 20th and 21st centuries? God also said in the same verse, “Sin is a reproach to any people.” Well, what do you think of America’s future on the course we’ve chosen?

We extend our sympathy to Diane Potter in the loss of her mother, Christine. Her memorial service was conducted on Thursday morning in our building.
Her grandfather, S. C. Fleming was one of the first elders of the Sunset church. And you will recognize the name “Fleming,” so that makes her a cousin of Maurine.

We received a long letter from Stephanie Stafford and you will want to read it. It is posted on the foyer bulletin board.
