We extend our sympathy to the family of Mildred Harrison inthe death of her brother-in-law, Al Leguna. His services were held this past week at the Hickory Knoll Church of Christ in New Orleans. He preached for that congregation for a number of years and we were privileged to send assistance to them for use with the victims of Katrina this last year.

As you know, we no longer mail out our bulletin to save on postage and printing. However, many of you are blessed to be receiving the bulletin due to the kindness of one of our elders and staff writers, Jack Armstrong. He mails out quite a number each week at his own expense and we commend him for his generosity. If you would like to be put on his list, just call the church office and we’ll be glad to add your name. It seems Jack’s articles are the high spot of many and they look forward to reading his column. You also know, of course, that he is a writer for the Duncanville paper each week. We try to post his article on the bulletin board in the Community Room each week, thanks to one of our members who brings us a copy.

We look forward to having our fist student for Friendspeak this coming Sunday evening. One other had to cancel last week, but will be calling later for an opportunity to learn how to speak better conversational English.
As Tom Duvall has said many times, keep this effort in your prayers that God will open up doors of opportunity for us to share the message of truth with others.

A number of the Jefferson Boulevard members were present for a special anniversary program at the Edgefield Iglesia de Christo Sunday, July 8th, following our own services. We extend our congratulations to those brethren for the great work they are doing among the Hispanic population in their area. We felt honored to be asked to join them in this special service and enjoyed a delicious meal following the service.

ARE YOU FAITHFUL?
I have a feeling that if you would ask almost any member of the church if he considers himself to be faithful he would say “yes”. It might be someone who seldom attends the public assembly on the Lord’s Day. It could be someone who does not always tell the truth. It could easily be someone who incurs debts which he never intends to pay. It might be a person who abandons his wife and children, or a wife who leaves her husband and children.
It is easy to imagine ourselves to be faithful simply because we attend all the regularly scheduled services of the church. Being faithful should certainly include faithfulness in attendance but it is far more than than.
Paul said that Christ called him to be an apostle and put him into the ministry because he counted him faithful. 1 Timothy 1:12. At the time, Paul was not yet a Christian. In fact, he was persecuting Christians even unto death. How could he then be faithful? He was faithful in the sense that he was dependable. He was reliable. He was misled and greatly mistaken in his views of Christm, but he was honestly mistaken. He was very conscientious in what he was doing. He was very zealous in pursuit of the things in which he believed.
Would I be counted faithful in that same sense? Am I dependable, reliable? Do I zealously pursue the things in which I profess to believe? Are we faithful in being true to the Book? Do we take a strong stand for what the Bible teaches? Are we faithful in moral purity? Are we faithful in our stewardship? Are we faithful in giving back to God what belongs to Him?
“Examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith”, 2 Cor. 13:5

Our 4th of July picnic and worship service was a smashing success. We had a large number for our sack lunch supper and capped it off with some delicious ice cold watermelon. We ate our picnic supper in the Fellowship Hall and moved to the patio area outside for the watermelon. That shows you how nice the weather was even if we did have rain earlier. Then we concluded the festivities with a devotional service that reflected on the birth of this nation, including our patriotic songs and Scriptures and prayers. I don’t know when I have enjoyed a 4th of July celebration more. Wish you could have been here to enjoy it with us.
I promised all who were present that we would do this every Wednesday night, that is have a sack supper with watermelon and everyone was delighted until I added the condition. I said we would do this every time the 4th of July falls on Wednesday.

The Jefferson Boulevard church is invited to join the Edgefield church for a special celebration today. It will begin at 11:35 and I promise that our services will be over in time for us to make it. This will be followed by lunch in their Fellowship Hall. Jacob Locke will be leading singing, along with Omar Corpus and Jacob and I will have a brief message for the occasion. Join us as we extend our greetings and best wishes for their good work.

I received a brief letter form Bill Tyson with an update on Joe and Ruth Benedick. It seems there was some mix up in the telephone number we shared with you for them. Their correct number is 1-580-226-3515. Please be patient when you call, it takes a good bit of time for them to get to the phone.
Ruth’s condition is deteriorating and she is bed-ridden, even too weak to sit up in bed. Joe is still capable of feeding himself and can wheel himself around in the wheelchair except that he won’t leave her side.
Their condition is taking its toll on Shelly and her health has suffered.
He asks that we continue to keep all of them in our prayers.
One positive bit of good news that you will want to know about. Their son, Chad and his wife Rana are expecting a grand-
daughter very soon. They ask an interest in our prayers for them as well.
