The Visitor

Here and There
by Wes Price

12/02/07

This is the count-down to our annual Holiday Party. If you have not made reservations for the party, please do so by Wednesday of this week. My goal is to have every able-bodied member of the Jefferson Boulevard church present for this great event. We have some who have paid extra so that any who think they cannot afford to attend will be covered. All you have to do is tell me and we’ll make sure you can come. No one else will know and those who paid extra so others could come won’t know either. Joe Hancock is excited about coming to be our entertainment, so we’ll have a delicious meal and a fun time listening to his singing and playing. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT MISSING IT!

Mack Lyon’s lesson on Sunday morning, December 9, will be “Forgiveness.” Everyone needs to be forgiving at times. Likewise every soul knows his frequent need to be forgiven of offenses to God and other people. Therefore, this message ought to have universal appeal. Be sure you hear it. Join Mack on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m.

Our Ladies and Men’s Bible Classes will continue through Tuesday, December 11, and then will be dismissed until January 8. This will provide us extra time to get ready for the biggest family event of the year.
———————
Our “Friendspeak” program is still struggling, but we have not missed a single Sunday without at least one student. We are praying that others will join us for this good effort tonight. I’m sure the holiday last week affected our attendance since we were missing some of our more regular students. Keep this effort in your prayers.

Quite frequently I include an article written by Lewis Hale of the Southwest church in Oklahoma City in our bulletin. Let me share a most recent one with you: It’s entitled, “A Way Out.”
He writes, Recently I heard Mack Lyon the “Search” program. He read from some of the documents of our early history of Thanksgiving proclamations. He did so to show that forefathers were profuse in their references to God and to Divine Providence. He had a powerful lesson.
As l listened to brother Mack, it occurred to me, There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
Our leaders in government have made a concerted effort to remove God from our lives. They have banned prayer in public schools. Bible reading is not allowed. Cities are not allowed to have a cross displayed on public property. Public offices cannot have a display of a plaque with the Ten Commandments. The list goes on and on.
But, what if school superintendents and principals and maybe even the
teachers, should decide that in classes they will have a reading of those documents. I have a feeling it would be very difficult to prosecute anyone for reading those in

classrooms. Maybe you should suggest that to your school.
Christmas is only a little over four weeks away, believe it or not. It is too commercially profitable for God-haters to remove. I think it is here to stay. It is too bad that money has to be the motivation for leaving some things alone.
If Christians do not actively speak up to put god back into people’s lives, who will? You have a voice, make it heard.

Amen! Lewis Hale

REFLECTIONS
by Jack Armstrong

Well, for the second time this year I rushed out and brought all of our plants in because of a threat of freezing weather, and as I did so I thought to myself, things like this cause us to react right now, because we know the outcome if we don’t make a move before it’s too late. Why can’t folks see this in their lives, the way they live each day, live so they will be prepared for the most important day of our lives, “Judgment Day”!
Get the young ones up and get ready for church service on Sunday a.m., Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening and sit with them and read the Bible together and pray together. Not just at meal time, but at other times when they are all together. Oh, how I look back and wish me and mine had done more of it. It’s something I think should just be a part of our natural way of doing things. The order of our lives as I see it should be, Lord, Family, and Country, in that order. The reason I am pointing this out is so our young folks will not make the same mistakes we did and always put our Lord first in everything they do!
In other places we’ve gone to worship I’ve heard folks come out and make the sad statement, “I just didn’t get a thing out of that sermon, or out of that service”! Or, I thought he never would get through, he just carried on and on (and maybe he was only 5 or 10 minutes past what they thought he should preach). People with an attitude like that, need to have an attitude adjustment.
It was so good to see our dear friends, Cloyce and Kay Jurecka there with us last Lord’s day, 11/18/07. When I see them I always thing of our sweet departed Estelle Mclarty who was such a dear friend to us all.
To me this is one of the best holidays we have in the year. Lots of family together, lots of good food, lots of football, and a chance to remember those who are less fortunate than us in our prayers and deeds.
We were all so happy last week to have Don Hartbolt come to be baptized into Christ and to join the fold here at JBCoC. Let’s all make him feel welcome and get to know him better.
