The Visitor

December 23, 2007

Here and There
by Wes Price

We are grateful today for visitors who have come to be with their family for the holiday season. I hope you will greet them warmly and make them feel welcome. We will include them in our prayers for a safe journey home and wish them a Happy New Year!
———————
On Wednesday evening this week, we will be having a special devotional to close out our year of studying in the Old Testament. We will be focusing on songs that feature themes from the Old Testament which serve to give us strength and guidance as we look forward to the beginning of a New Year. We hope you will come and join us for this final Wednesday service of the year.
In keeping with the holiday season, please note that our offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 25, and on Tuesday, January 1.
The Men’s and Ladies Tuesday Bible classes will resume on Tuesday, January 8.

The Seagoville Church has invited us to join them on Friday night, December 28, at 7:00 p.m. for their annual year-end singing. The church is located in Seagoville on 510 North Kaufman Street. For those who love to sing, Gene Edmonds sends a special invitation to be present.
———————
Mack Lyon’s final lesson for 2007 will be “Today Will Be Yesterday Tomorrow.” Isn’t that an intriguing statement. Join him on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m.
With the changing of the years, we are reminded again of the fleeting nature of time. The title for this message says it well. It comes from an article by a gospel preacher who is very dear to me and one for whom I have the greatest respect. His name is Willard Collins of Nashville, Tennessee.

Don’t forget to take a good supply of the 2008 calendars to give to your friends and family members. Not only will it be useful for the year ahead, it also contains a brief summary of the plan of salvation on the reverse.

REFLECTIONS
by Jack Armstrong
Do you ever just stop and wonder where in the world all the time goes? Seems like only a short time ago that we left the Mt. View congregation and came to join the folks at the old Sunset CoC, and I might add we were welcomed with open arms and really made to feel at home. That has been 16 years ago, can you believe it? Maurine came over first to check things out , then *Ollie & Jo Morris, *Dottie and I, Charlie & Nadine Brown, Tom Duvall, *Sid & *Rosie Burk, Otis & *Pat Cunningham, Albert & Cynthia Estrada, Bonita Douglas, *Mary Heather, Lewis and Bonnie Hinton, *Lorene Holland, Oleta Landin, Jean Lovell, *Alma Reeves, Mary & Sam Martin, *Dewey Alsup, *Virginia Shelby, *Merle & Ruby Williamson, *Willie & Mary Russell, Lucille James, *Earl and *Leota Drummond, Gail Griggs, *Marion Marshall, Martha Lauderdale, Magdalena Gonzalez; then *Lloyd and Alletha Lee came after he retired from full-time preaching at Desdemona. I’m sure I have probably left some off, but with all of us and 5 or 6 years ago we joined forces with our dear brothers & sisters from Edgefield we’ve seen some great times here at the ‘ol JBCoC!
Sometimes we think of our beloved preacher as just our preacher and teacher, and one who spends hours visiting us in the hospital, but he also spends lots of hours preparing special events for us making sure everyone has a way to worship service if they desire to be here, and when some of us are a little slack in our service he pays us a visit or a call to see if he can be of some help. Besides all this he still finds time to take care of his elder duties and believe me that’s no small chore in itself.
Folks we want all of you to know we hope all of you have happy holidays and a prosperous and healthy new year, which is right on top of us!!
Let’s all make a New Year’s Resolution to attend all the services this year that we are physically able to attend. And we know that there are quite a few here who are just not able to be here at times, but anyone who needs a ride just give us a call.
Oleta and I want thank all of you for the beautiful Christmas cards and speaking of giving, we have changed our plans for Wes & Alma Faye’s gift this year. We have decided to put it on a more personal basis by individual giving, if you desire.
Hope all is well with all of our shut-ins, we love you and miss you. We’ll try to get by to see you more in 2008. Let’s all congregate in 2008.
I sure have enjoyed visiting with you via our Visitor and prayerfully we’ll keep on doing it in 2008. See you later the good Lord willing.
