The Visitor – December 30, 2007
Here and There – December 30, 2007
by Wes Price
We never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our brothers and sisters at Jefferson Boulevard. Thank you for all the generous gifts during this holiday season. We never feel worthy of your thoughtfulness but we know that it comes from a genuine and sincere heart filled with your thankfulness for our efforts to serve you in the faith. We will never forget you for your love.
And thank you also for the gracious way you received my sermon on Sunday morning. Somehow, it seemed to be so appropriate for the season, but little did I know that it would also be appropriate as we saw the unselfish way you bestowed your gifts on us.

Our evening service at 5:00 p.m. will be our “Fifth” Sunday singing to close out the year of 2007. Remember that we will only be having these special singing services when we have five Sundays in a month. The other Sunday nights will be a regular worship service. Our second Wednesday evening singings will continue as before but with a little different format. Jacob and I will share the responsibility for teaching new songs and working on improving our singing over all. We believe all will profit from this new format.

We were so pleased to welcome three new members into our fellowship on Sunday morning with prayers on their behalf for their restoration to faithfulness. I mistakenly informed you that they attended the Cotton, Texas church of Christ, but in fact they were members at the Cottonwood Church of Christ in Grand Prairie which is no longer in existence.
My wife and I had the privilege of visiting in their home this past week and enjoyed getting better acquainted with them. Jimmy and his son Travis are big game hunters and they have the trophies on the walls to prove it.
The Watsons are also close neighbors to the Swansons who live only a couple or three doors down from their apartment.
If you have not met them, please do so and welcome them into our fellowship.

Mack Lyon’s lesson on Sunday, January 6, will be “When Jesus Comes.”
Much is being said in the media and print ministries about “end times.” We are frequently asked why we do not preach more about it. This program will not only comply with those specific requests, it will supply the honest inquirer information he cannot learn from the aforementioned programs and publications.
Join Mack on Channel 27, KDFI-TV, at 7:00 a.m. Sunday mornings every week. Other valuable programs are available also and you’ll find the time and place elsewhere in our bulletin.

I hope you will join me in the Daily Bible Reading program. We have
schedules available to you to use that generally require a couple of chapters from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. You will find it very beneficial and spiritually uplifting. Copies of the schedule can be found on the table in the foyer.

As we come to the end of 2007, there is one other special request I have of all our members. Please check back on your weekly giving and see if there are any Sundays you may have missed your contribution by being away from our services. If you find that you have, please make a special effort to make that up next Sunday. This is not an appeal for anything except to encourage you to keep your pledge of giving weekly to the work of the church at Jefferson Boulevard.
I find it very encouraging to have members who are going to be out of town to leave the contribution with one of the elders so that a gap does not occur in their weekly giving. We also have some of our shut ins who mail their contribution regularly and we are very grateful for their remembering their responsibility.
Our prayers for you are that you will have a healthy and prosperous new year and that you will show your gratitude by your gracious giving as well as gracious living.

On Wednesday evening, January 2, we will begin a new study series on the Parables of Christ found in the gospels. This will be a combined teaching effort by all of our Bible class teachers. If you have not been attending on Wednesday evening, why not give it a try. You’ll be blessed spiritually and your faith will be strengthened.
The same thing is true of our Sunday afternoon services. So many of you don’t come who could and we believe your presence would be of immense value to others who come. And your knowledge of the Bible would be increased, not to mention a growing faith.
In a recent e-mail from Martha Spicer, she asked us to remember her father on his 100th birthday. She didn’t give the date, but I know he will be blessed if you send him a greeting card as soon as you can. His address is: Mr. J. E. Edmond, 2305 Estaline Dr., Florence, AL 35630. Pray for Martha’s safe return from there.

Reflections by Jack Armstrong
Oleta and I went to see sweet Carmen McMillion this week and I want to tell you when you go over to see Carmen she lets you know real quick how happy she is to see you! We were doubly lucky because Sylvia was there with her, and Muriel had just left to go to work. I want to tell you in all my years I have never seen two more dedicated or loving daughters than these two.
Things also don’t seem right without Ada Couch on that back row in the middle section. Vertie Lee Stanley and Connie are two more we miss.
Oleta Landin and Lillian we have been missing you, too. Happily, they were with us December 23rd. Of course we miss all of you who haven’t been able to be here for a while. Our family is just not complete when your not here.
Wes had two articles in our Visitor from Bros. John Gipson & Lewis G. Hale last week. You should read the articles if you have not. These two fine men always have good Christian viewpoints to offer us.
Well folks, it’s been great visiting with you again, and we’ll see you next time the good Lord willing.
Remember our Goal…. “When Duty Becomes Desire”
