Here and There
by Wes Price
Sunday, May 11 is MOTHER’S DAY. Mack Lyon writes: “No,
mother should not be worshiped, and we shall not do so or urge that
in this program. However, from days of old we are taught to “Honor your fathers and mothers.” They are worthy. Mother’s role in God’s scheme for populating the earth He had created is of the highest honor.
Join Mack on Channel 27 KDFW-TV at 7:00 a.m. for this tribute to mothers.

This morning following our regular offering, we will pass the plates a second time for those who may want to help continue our support for World Bible School. We encourage you to join with churches across the nation who have asked on this special day to make a contribution to the good work. We are honored by the memory of those in our past history who dedicated so much of their time and money to being teachers in this good work. And we still have some who continue to do that. Let’s help them out by a generous contribution to support the advertising and printing of materials to see the gospel preached in foreign countries.

For a little advanced notice, we have set Tuesday, June 17, as the date for our next Keenagers Meeting. I have been able to secure an excellent singing group to be with us for some entertainment that you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars now and we’ll keep reminding you as the time approaches.

Several of us were able to travel to Ft. Worth to enjoy a birthday celebration for our dear friend and sister Sue Lawrence. We congratulate her. She still tells us that she misses us and we assure her that we do miss her as well. She and Henrietta Pummill live in the same apartment complex and so they share a great time together.

Jimmy Mooney remains in Charlton Methodist and it appears that he will have his final surgery before being dismissed. We ask that you continue to pray for the surgeon’s success and for Jimmy’s complete recovery.

Reflections
by Jack Armstrong
Sometimes when I’m sitting here it’s hard to think of what to write, when it dawns on me, you have all given me good stuff to write about from time to time.
Pam Cox has given me a world of good things so I’m going to pass some along to you.
The Top Ten Predictions for 2008
1 The Bible will have the answers.
2 Prayer will still work.
3 The Holy Spirit will still move.
4 God will still inhabit the praises of His people
5 There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6 There will still be singing of praise.
7 God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8 There will still be room at the Cross.
9 Jesus still loves you.
10 Jesus will still save the lost.
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, a loop called enemies, caution lights called family. You will have flats called jobs. But if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success.
Thank you Pam, for going to the trouble to get this to us. Hope it will
help all of us.
While I was doing some reflecting the other day the thought came to me what a true down to earth church family we have right here at JBCoC. Not since I was a youngster in our old family congregation have I felt so close to a group of folks. Now the reason I bring this up is this, the time is going to come before too long that with mine and Oleta’s health problems we will not be able to make the long drive over to Oak Cliff and will have to worship closer to home, as bad as we will hate to do it after all these wonderful years with all of you! I hope you will forgive me for getting so personal in the column, but I had to bring this out and to thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring as you all do. There never will be another bunch like you.
Ruth Manning says her daughter, Pam, is doing much better now and Jo Morris’ eyes are much better, so we thank the Good Lord for these two doing better. We pray Jimmy Mooney will also cope with his problem with our help and improve in time. Keep him in your daily prayers.
It is our fervent prayer all of our sick will get much better soon.
