The Visitor – June 29, 2008

Here and There
by Wes Price

It was our sad duty on Thursday morning to say goodbye to Nell Tubbs at her memorial service. Thank you for all who could be there to express sympathy to Jamie Headquist, her granddaughter, along with her husband Stewart. Nell was 91 years young.

I am grateful to my fellow elders for planning this special day of celebration and to all who had a part in it. It is a special bonus for getting to do what I love doing the most, loving and caring for people and ministering to their spiritual needs. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And ……..my wife thanks you too.

We were blessed with three responses last Sunday to the invitation. Rick and Rhonda Ramsey asked for the prayers of the church for neglecting their spiritual duties and asked to be reinstated as members here. We are so thankful for their renewal and for the strength they will lend this church.
In addition, Maxine Miller, the care giver for Vertie Stanley came forward asking for strength to live a more faithful life for the Lord. We hope we will see her again and help her in her spiritual journey to learn about the Lord more perfectly. Remember to watch for her when Vertie Lee is here and encourage both of them, as well as Vertie Lee ’s daughter Connie.

Sunday morning, July 6, join Mack Lyon on Channel 27, KDFI-TV, at 7:00 a.m. and hear his lesson on “The Return of Christ.”
In that familiar and loved passage, John 14:1-3, Jesus promised His disciples He would “come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, you may be also.” Later they watched Him as He ascended into Heaven. What is Christ going to do when He comes? Join Mack to learn what the Bible says about this blessed event.”

We were blessed to have Domingo and Becky Martinez and several members of their family visiting with us last Sunday morning and Domingo was present on Wednesday evening. We look forward to having this good family with us and we hope that they might even consider becoming regular members here. They were faithful members at the Beverly Hills church along with the Bells, Royal Smith and others.

Reflections
by Jack Armstrong
Our Keenagers get-together on June 17 was a dandy! We were treated to a song fest by the “New Andrews Sisters” and I might add it brought back some old memories. The girls were just great and I’m sure our get-together was enjoyed by all! Bro. Wes has a knack for rounding up some great talent for our Keenager meetings.
It was so good to see our Addie Bennett there since we hadn’t seen her in quite a while and she looked just great.
Several of our bunch went to Lubbock to attend the funeral of Louise Gerner’s sister, Laura Wood, and Wes said they would represent all of us who couldn’t make the trip. We want Louise to know we all love her, and our hearts go out to her in the loss of her sister. Sorry we couldn’t all have gone along.
Oleta and I sat next to Alletha at the Keenagers meeting and I just thought while sitting there it might be our last one with her after all the years we’ve all been together. She told us the 29th will probably be the time she is leaving. We all want to wish you the very best of everything Alletha, and to let you know we will miss you and your sweet smile sorely.
We are also going to miss two more dear friends who are moving away, Jim & Ada Couch. Things just won’t be the same without these three!
It was so good to see Doris Henry there with C.B. on June 15. Did you notice the big smile on C.B.’s face?
We also were glad to have the Ramseys along with Lewis Hinton on June 15. What a great blessing it would be to have them there all the time.
Time is getting closer for our appreciation dinner for our preacher. The date is June 29 after the morning worship service and we hope you folks that have moved away will come and join us on this day to show Bro. Wes how much we care. We know he is looking forward to having his dear friend Leon Crouch come and be with him on that day, since he was the one who mentored Wes and had a big part in Wes taking up the ministry, he has so
faithfully followed for 45 years!
Well folks, guess that’s it for now, we’ll see you next time the good Lord willing.
