The Visitor – July 20, 2008
Here and There
by Wes Price
Today will be a red letter day in the history of Jefferson Boulevard Church. It will be both a sad day and a happy day. Sad, because we will be saying goodbye to our dear Alletha Lee. She will be with us through this week, but will be gone by the next Lord’s Day to her new home in Arkansas.
We will do our best to show our love and respect to Alletha today as we honor her long years of service to this church and recall with fond memory the same devotion of her husband, Lloyd.
And happy because we will have a joyous fellowship time with our “sack supper” following the afternoon worship service. But before we get to that time, we will have the privilege of hearing an old friend of mine preach for us at the afternoon service. He is B.B. Stevens and he is also one of the members of the Gospelaires Quartet and will be joining the other singers following our meal together. I know you will thoroughly enjoy both his preaching and his singing.
Please bring adequate food for your family plus just a little more so that we can invite all our guests to stay and enjoy that meal with us. There will be one special cake for dessert, but you might want to bring your own special treat for others to enjoy.

We ask you to keep Jerri and Grace Locke in your prayers as they make final preparations for their long voyage to China to bring a new sister for Grace home. It will be a long and adventurous trip, but I know Jerri will appreciate your continuing prayers in their behalf. The date of departure will be July 25, 2008 and we will keep you posted on the date of their return. It might be that we can arrange a special welcome for this new member of the Locke family, what do you think?

While the church is not in the selling or advertising business, it seems wise when there is an opportunity to save money for our members that a need arises to tell them about it. First, Nadine Brown has informed me about 2 cemetery lots available in Laurelland Cemetery which are available at about 50% of the original cost.
For more information, please call Charlie or Nadine Brown.
At about the same time I learned of these from the Browns, I also learned from John Losher, President of Christian Care Center, that the Center has at least 6 lots donated to them that are available for reduced prices. If you are interested in learning more about these, please let me know and I will contact John Losher about more details.
We received word this past week from the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association that C.B. Henry’s brother, Marin Henry made a memorial gift to the association in memory of his brother’s death and for his widow, Doris. Our thanks to him for his thoughtful generosity.

COME TO HIM
There is no one righteous, not even one.
Romans 3:10, NIV
In their pride, the builders of Babel (Gen. 11:4) assumed they could work their way into God’s Presence and He would accept them on the basis of what they had done. They were wrong then, and they are still wrong today.
God has said that “All our righteous acts are like filthy rags,”
(Isa. 64:6) and “There is no one righteous, not even one.” (Rom. 3:10) and “Without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Heb. 12:14). So how does one get into heaven? Jesus gave clear instructions, “Not everyone… will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 7:21) and “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). All religions are man’s rebellious, prideful attempt to get around God’s stated will and Word. Instead of arguing with Him, just come to Him through Jesus!

What A Pleasure It Has Been
For Many Years
Let Us Hear From You Real Soon
We Will Miss You and We Love You
God Will Take Care of You
Reflections
by Jack Armstrong
It was so good to see Bill & Shelly Tyson at our Sunday evening service. Shelly said Bro. Joe Benedick is getting weaker all the time.
We thank the Lord that our attendance is building up once again, thanks to all of the fine folks from Beverly Hills, and Rick & Rhonda Ramsey, Lewis Hinton (back again), Cookie Rowe, Domingo & Becky Martinez and their family, the Bells, and Royal Smith. What a blessing it is to have them all with us.
We were happy to have our Brown Trail School of Preaching future full time preacher with us on July 6, and once again he did a splendid job bringing the sermon and also teaching Bro. Wes’ Bible class. Some day some church will get a fine young preacher when they get that young man. Just think he has only been there a year, and is already capable of bringing those great lessons from God’s Word. Spencer Ross we all thank you for coming over and sharing your up to date learning skills with us! Keep up the good work!
We were so happy to see Alleta Smith, Debbie McClure, and beautiful little Hollie there on July 6. Wish our old friend, Hal could have been with them. When I went to say hi to Debbie that beautiful little Hollie held out her arms for me to take her and gave me a big ‘ol hug and a kiss! I can remember when Debbie and Rhonda (Hal & Alleta’s daughters) were small and I felt like I helped rear them. Those were for sure some good ‘ol days to remember. Right, Maurine?
In regard to that poster in our foyer last Lord’s Day, I just want you to know it was my idea to put it there, because I thought it told the story. When a man and woman put in that many years doing what they do, someone needs to tell about it. Like I always say, any time you see a great man, there is usually a great woman pushing him forward.
Folks, when we are doing our private praying in the quiet of our home let’s all remember Bro. Joe Benedick, Carmen McMillion and her sweet girls, Jimmy Mooney, our fine ‘ol elder Roger Schrum, Grady Theobalt, Robert G. Bell, Billie Thompson, and all of our loved ones on our Prayer List.
I told Rick and Rhonda Ramsey, and Lewis what a beautiful sight it is to me to see them back with us. They hold a very special place in our hearts, because of many years of worshipping together, and just being good friends.
Well, folks guess that’s it for now and guess I’d better leave some room for the “Ed”.
We’ll see you next time, the good Lord willing.
REMEMBER
“When Duty Becomes Desire”
By the way……
I checked with Chubby’s on July 8, 2008 and they said they are shooting for July 14, 2008 to open. We are looking forward to getting our Sunday Evening get-togethers going again!!
