The Visitor – August 3, 2008

Here and There
by Wes Price
While we are not in the business of trying to get time to pass faster, but, we all are wishing that these hot days of summer were over. However, you will notice by your calendar and by your own experience, we are still only about half way through the hottest days of summer. So, please do yourself a favor and stay in out of the heat. If you must be outside, try using the coolest time of the morning. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can catch you unaware and it is not something to take lightly. If you need an extra fan in your home to help keep utility bills down, let me know and I’ll come up with one for you to use. And while you are at it, please pray for rain. We could use a few inches to catch us up to normal.
Rest easy and take care of yourself

We don’t ever have very many people in our church who have been married for 71 years. So this week, a bunch of JBCoC folks expressed congratulations to John and Lillian Rowland on their 71st anniversary. What a record. I hope your card was among the scores of cards they received. You guys keep up the good work, hear?

We were thrilled at the response last Sunday of Lesa Houston to obey the gospel. She found a place in our hearts a long time ago and now has a place officially as a member of the Lord’s family. We congratulate her for her decision.

Jerri and Grace and now Anabel are still on their odyssey. Everything has progressed well in their adventures and they are well on to getting back home to Dallas. You can keep up with their adventures through a blog site that Jerri up-dates every hour or so. Dial it up and learn of their adventures. The address is
www.asisterforgrace.blogspot.com.
We will keep them in our prayers until they are safely back in our midst.

We had an excellent beginning to our new Wednesday night studies about the life of Christ with Richard Rogers this past week. You would be doing yourself a great favor for your spiritual well-being if you would join us for this study.

Reflections
by Jack Armstrong
We had a grand ‘ol time after the afternoon service on July 20 with the Gospelaires entertaining us, and lots of folks there to show our Alletha how much we love her and to bid her a fond farewell. Bro. B. B. Stevens brought us a fine lesson from God’s Word and all in all it was a very enjoyable time!
The Gospelaires men and their wives are Gaylord Sturgess, wife Sharon, David Wallace, wife Linda, Cliff Holden, wife Beverly, and last but not least B. B. Stevens, wife Jerri.
Oleta and I, as did many of you, bought one of their tapes on the Reunion (06/07) and listened to it on the way home and it was great.
Just in case you missed it, on the back of our August Church Calendar is the daily Bible schedule for the month of August.
On a personal note, we would like to say, what a wonderful, giving, and loving buch we have here at the JBCOC. What a show of love in all your taking part in the money tree for Alletha and to Charlie and Nadine Brown for fixing it up so pretty!
Well, it’s finally happened. The brand new Chubby’s Restaurant has opened where the old Owens used to be, and it’s all new inside and the folks are real friendly. Tom and Ann and Oleta and I went by to try it out on the first day it opened, and were very pleased with the food and the service. We told Pam Santiago, the manager, that we would probably have a group of our folks to come over on Sunday evening after worship and she said bring them on and we’ll take care of them.
Our ‘ol friend Cecil used to go over with us on Sunday evenings and he would sit by Oleta and me to get her leftovers. He’d always say — “ ‘whatcha’ got left Mom” and she always saved him some. We sure have missed those good times of fellowship. Maybe we can start it up again now that we have a place to go.
By the way we want to thank Bro. Wes for organizing the “Sack Supper”, and the great entertainment for our farewell get-together for Alletha Lee. What a great way for us all to get together to say goodbye or should we just say “so long,” which means we’ll see her soon, when she gets up our way to visit James.
By the way, we want to tell all of our new members how glad we are you came our way, and let us know if we can be of any help to you.
In one of the articles I asked if anyone knew of a job opening for my son, Jack, to let me know, and Eugenia Talbott told me about an opening at her company, which he went to check on and I would like to thank her, even though he didn’t quite qualify for the job. Eugenia is always helping out in one way or another and we love you dearly for all your caring.
Well, folks I’ve run out of room so we’ll see you next time, the “Good Lord” willing.
Remember our goal…
