The Visitor – September 28, 2008

Here and There
by Wes Price
A number of changes will be coming up for the month of October and I want to give you advance notice so you can arrange your schedule accordingly.
On October 12, my wife and I along with Jacob and Joyce Locke will be leaving early on Sunday morning to travel to New York City to board a ship to take a cruise up into the inland waterways between the U.S. and Canada. We will be gone for the entire week and will return on Sunday, October 19th.
On Sunday October 12th, you will be blessed by hearing our good friend and preacher, Spencer Ross of the Brown Trail School of Preaching. He will be speaking at both services as well as teaching my Bible class.
On Wednesday evening, October 15th, Royal Smith has agreed to take Jacob’s place for the monthly singing. That means, of course that we are reversing a couple of our Wednesday evenings. The usual singing would be on the 2nd, but we will continue our studies with Richard Rogers and return to the second Wednesday night singing in November.
On October 19th, Spencer Ross will be preaching at the morning service and teaching my Sunday morning Bible class. At the evening service, our local missionary working with the Pleasant Grove church, Alberta Serna, will be preaching.
Royal Smith will be leading singing for all the services in Jacob’s absence.
Tom Duvall will be teaching my Tuesday morning class and Paul Lawrence will be teaching the Ladies class.
Needless to say, both Jacob and I are grateful to you for allowing us the privilege of being gone at the same time. And speaking for my wife, I know she is grateful to have Paul Lawrence teach her Ladies Class
This trip for my wife and I is a direct result of your generosity toward us in years past. We have been blessed these past few Holiday Seasons by being the recipient of a generous gift of cash. I put all of that away for just such a special occasion and now it has arrived. Thank you for loving us the way you do. No preacher and his wife could be more appreciated and loved the way we are by theJefferson Boulevard church.
Please keep both families in your prayers for a safe and happy voyage. Special thanks to Josh Whitaker for his professional skills in arranging our trip. We highly recommend him as an expert in the travel business.

In recent weeks, your elders have been called upon to assist in new mission efforts. The Cloudcroft, New Mexico church oversees the work in Guatemala and have ask for our assistance. Also, the elders of the Kensington church, overseeing the work in Tanzania, have asked for additional assistance. Your generous giving makes it possible for us to make a one time contribution to these good works. Now, in addition to your continuing generosity, please pray that the Lord will bless our gifts to them and multiply their seed for sowing.

Paul Lawrence, my wife and I bring you warm greetings from two of our out-of-town members, Henrietta Pummill and Sue Lawrence. We had the privilege of driving over on Thursday and having lunch with these two lovely Christian ladies. While it is impossible for them to worship with us, we still consider them to be our members, Henrietta still holding the status of being our oldest member.
Why don’t you drop them a card or give them a call. And better yet, you can travel to Ft. Worth to see them just as we did. If you can go sometime, give them a call in advance so they know you are coming.

Reflections
by Jack Armstrong

We’ve seen lots of “young’uns grow up over here in Duncanville over the past 12 years or so, and I’ve loved it so much, but due to my age, my
emphysema and Oleta’s insistance guess it’s time for me to turn in my ‘ol ID badge and retire once again. Lots of my friends think I’m a little touched in the head for working this long, but if you’re doing something you enjoy and feel like you may be making a little difference in some kids lives, I say it was worth it!
Speaking of kids, aren’t you so proud and happy that we have some teenagers in our midst once again, not only do we have teenagers, but we have our little imported darlin’s with us, all the way from China! What a wonderful blessing they all are!
This past week on 9/17/08 we said goodbye to a dear sister, Lillian Rowland, and the day before to another dear long time friend, Naomi Carter. These two will be sorely missed, but once again we know that our loss will be Heaven’s gain. Once again or I should say twice again Bro. Wes bid them farewell in his usual good way! When the time comes I hope he’s still around to send me on my way. He probably knows more about us than our families, so we had all better straighten up and fly right for a good send off when the time comes. I firmly believe he has an inside view and strong relationship with our dear Lord!
I think it’s so great that over here at JBCoC we are adding a few new members along the way.
Bro. Wes made mention in Lillian’s funeral service about our Nadine (Lucy) Brown and how faithful she and Charlie are to send cards and letters to all on all occasions and I would like to add my 2 cents in and say Amen, because my Oleta and I have been on the receiving end of some of her sweet letters, cards and many words of encouragement. She and ‘ol Charlie are two of a kind and that kind is just wonderful Christian follks, “no two ways about it”. They are always doing for all!
Well, guess we’d better leave some room for the “Ed”, so we’ll see you next time the “Good Lord” willing.
God Keep You
In His Loving Arms!
Remember….
