The Visitor – October 5, 2008
Here and There
by Wes Price
What joy it was to receive the news from Steve Iverson about the young lady who visited with them this past week-end. The family stopped in Davis, Oklahoma for evening worship and Danielle decided it was time to obey the gospel. Steve baptized her and I know the whole family was spiritually uplifted. And, we were when we received the news. Some of us were wondering about the hesitation Steve expressed about her obeying the gospel in his morning sermon and you, no doubt, like my wife and I prayed fervently for her. We couldn’t help remembering the Scripture where Jesus said, “If any one love father or mother or brother or sister more than me, he is not worthy of me.” And so, our prayers were answered for her eternity’s sake. Thanks especially to Zach for his good influence over her these past several months. Now keep her in your prayers. Her family has been disrupted but now she has a spiritual family who will care for and nurture her into spiritual maturity.
We were so blessed in having Steve,Trish, Stacie, her twins, Zach and Danielle with us.

Join Mack Lyon on Sunday morning, October 12, for his lesson on “Christ Calls Sinners.” Our Lord’s invitation is, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” There are many who are living in sin who are weary and would welcome His rest from their sinful lifestyle (besetting sin or addiction) if only they knew about it. Call them now and invite them to hear this message. See Matthew 11:28.
Hear him on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m.
Other valuable TV lessons are mentioned elsewhere in our bulletin. Check the times and enjoy some excellent Bible study.

As many of you know, I serve as one of the trustees of Doris Henry’s trust fund. It is our responsibility to conduct an estate sale of the family household possessions as well as the house itself. Ruth Manning is in charge of the sale and invites any of you who might be interested to drop by 306 W. Fain in Duncanville and pick up a bargain. The sale will begin on Thursday morning, October 9 and continue through Saturday, October 11. All proceeds go into her trust fund to help support her in the nursing home. We are indebted to David & Mary Jean Calvert, Jo Morris and Debbie Morris for their help in getting everything ready for the sale. The home is being listed with Ebby Halliday Realtors, with our dear friend Dorothy Davis handling the listing.
By the way, I know that Doris Henry would appreciate a visit from you when you can at the Nursing Home. While she may have trouble remembering who you are, your presence will serve to remind her of how
much we love her. The address of the nursing home is:
419 S.Cockrell Hill Road,

We mentioned several weeks ago that our Holiday party was set for Saturday, December 13, but due to the canceling of our entertainers, we have moved it back to Saturday, December 6, and we are so glad that Joe Hancock will be coming to provide us with some delightful entertainment. Please change the dates on your calendar so you won’t miss this gala affair.

A special word of thanks to all of those who serve in vital roles in keeping this congregation moving forward. Some are worth mentioning by name. They include Charlie Brown (and he is assisted in many projects by his lovely wife, Nadine), Vernon Percival (he is also assisted in the many visits they make by Mary Ruth), David & Mary Jean Calvert, Dan and Eugenia Talbot, my wife Alma Faye, James and Ann Schoolfield, Jacob and Joyce Locke, Ann Tomaszewski, Jack and Oleta Armstrong, Rita Wood, Maurine Fleming, and Betty Conyers. Just try and follow in the footsteps of these for a few days and you will see why so many things get done. Thanks for these loving servants. And again, a special mention and thanks to Kerryn Cox for his faithfulness in keeping our patio area clean and clear on Sunday mornings.

Reflectionsby Jack Armstrong
When I write one of my columns I read it over a couple of times to be sure it’s what I want to say to you, and many times I’ve torn up one and wrote another. This is really serious stuff for me so I just want it to be right and informative to you.
Sometimes I complain a little about my ailment to Oleta and some of you, then I think about all of our shut-ins and many of you who are much worse off than me, and we never hear a word of complaint out of your mouth. Folks such as Bro. & Sis. Bell, Helen Jones, Pat Maloy, Royal Smith, Carmen McMillion, Grady Theobalt, and many others on our sick list and some we don’t even know about. The beauty of the thing is lots of these dear folks are right in their pews when they are able, and sometimes when I know they don’t really feel like being here!
I don’t know how folks who don’t have a church family to turn to in time of need, and just to have so many dear friends who really deep down care about you. It has been demonstrated to me many times from our preacher on down to every loving, compassionate, caring member of this wonderful group here at the JBCoC!! Oleta and I love you all dearly and appreciate you sooooo much!
When I think back several years ago when my son, Larry was having his problems, how some of you ladies wrote to him so regularly, and encouraged him by your wonderful faith. Mary Perkins even made him a couple of beautiful quilts, two of our dear ones who have gone to be with the Lord (Mary Heather, and Dorothy Foster) and our standby Jean Lovell are really what kept him going, and we love you so much for all you did, and so does Larry!
I say this only to point out how important our church family is to our very existence as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve always believed that a congregation that is guided by a loving, caring man of God, shows it by the way they live and treat all those around them, especially the visitors who come to worship with us. We are blessed here at JBCoC to have a leader like that in Bro. Wes and we love him dearly for it. Actually we are double blessed in having Alma Faye who also does soooo much for us, so we are getting two for the price of one and we love you two dearly!!
We pray things are much better for all of our sick and shut-ins, we miss you sorely, and love you dearly. Now that I’m retiring from all my “little darlings on the school bus” I pray that Oleta and I can get around to visiting you all more!
God Keep You
In His Loving Arms!
