The Visitor – February 22, 2009
Here and There
by Wes Price
Thank you for welcoming me back to my column in the weekly Bulletin/Order of Service. I am more than happy to be back with you, even if it still is on a limited basis. I’m gaining additional strength each day and so able to get back to some of my work. It still will be several weeks before the doctor will release me to resume my duties in the pulpit, but it seems to me like you are having some wonderful lessons from our visiting preachers. I’m so grateful to them and to you for receiving them.
I owe so much to so many, it’s almost impossible for me to know where to begin to properly express myself to you for your kind-
nesses toward Alma Faye and me with the abundance of gracious acts of kindness. The hundreds of cards, scores of telephone calls and numerous personal visits to our home all have had a profound effect on my time of healing. However, the most valuable gift I’ve received, evidenced by my continued improvement, is the wonderful way you have of including me in your prayers over these past five weeks. Don’t ever underestimate the power of prayer. You will be the loser if you do. I was especially touched by George Bailey’s sermon on prayer and glad that I was able to be at that service and even though many of you could not hear some of his message, I was close enough to hear it.
Thanks for loving us and caring so much for us. We do so look forward to resuming our full schedule of work and activities by the first of June. The only way that could be halted is if you quit praying for me too soon. Please keep if up. We love you.

Two funerals were especially painful for me while I was unable to be out. The first was Baby Jones. Her son Bobby, called me the night she died, my first night home from the hospital. I was overcome with a tremendous feeling of distress but thankfully she died doing what she loved doing best, just getting on with life. We will miss her infectious personality and her busy ways of checking up on or doing favors for a host of people in the church. She will be missed.
The other funeral was also a shock. My dear friend Grady Theobalt’s daughter-in-law, Elaine passed away the very next week after Baby Jones. I felt so helpless to not be able to reach out and comfort Grady and his son Rick. I thank all of you who attended her service. I know that Grady was touched. Do me a favor and kindly mention Rick Theobalt’s name frequently in your prayers for the void that is in his heart.
A word of thanks is also in order to those of you who filled in some of the gaps for me and Alma Faye while we were out. To Tom Duvall for teaching my Tuesday morning class and to Paul Lawrence for teaching the Ladies’ Bible Class. Alma Faye resumed her teaching this last week and I will resume my teaching on Tuesday of this week. Now, before I forget, others are to be thanked for handling the Wednesday evening Bible study classes. You have helped keep everything running smoothly.
What a great joint effort of the many talents of this church. Praise God for blessing us with so many along with the faithful members who attend the services.

A very special word of thanks to my fellow elders, Jacob Locke and James Schoolfield for their loyal support and help during this time of illness and recuperation. I couldn’t have done it without them.
And a special, special word of thanks to my loving wife without whose help I could not possibly have survived. I am not a very happy patient, so you know how much I owe her for putting up with me, in spite of my impatience and impertinence. I wish everyone had a wife as good as mine, and I know you feel the same about yours.

Reflections
by Jack Armstrong
It was great to see Wes and Alma Faye at church services on 2/8/09 and 2/15/09. It felt like old times to see those smiling faces. Last week when Bro. Bailey preached for us and the old mike acted up I told Wes “just let you be gone and everything starts to go haywire”. Wes told me this a.m. 2/15/09 that he is walking a mile a day (½ at a time) and Alma Faye is walking with him, now that’s what I call going the extra mile, right?
We enjoyed Charlie Hodge being with us and hope he can return soon. Being married and preaching for 63 years, he has to be pretty close to my age, and still fired up and saying it like it is! My dad and I served with him in the Fort Worth Lions Club for several years. I don’t think he remembered me at the A.M. Service, but I just chalked it up to his age.
I’m writing this before service on 2/15/09, and we are looking forward to Helen Jones’ son preaching for us. He always has a wonderful down to earth lesson for us, and the beauty of it is he lives what he preaches, just as our own preacher does. Some men are just natural born preachers and I think Wes and Karl fit that category.
I sat on about the third or fourth row from the back this morning and heard some beautiful singing coming from our Fran Womelsdorsff. She sings like no one else, what a wonderful talent. I know some others here who sing beautifully like, Eugenia, Alma Faye, Ann, Ann Schoolfield, and many others. Those are just some I’ve heard sitting by them and Ruth, Debbie and Oleta are some others in that category! Many more too numerous to list in one writing.
After talking to Nadine Brown about her grandson, Roy Rutledge, he may have an address in Germany before long, so check with her if you’d like to drop him a note to let him know we are thinking of him.
Let’s all keep Jimmy Mooney in our prayers that his health problems will work out fine.
While you are at it go by and give Kerryn Cox a pat on the back and word of thanks for all the hard work he does keeping our patio and behind the auditorium looking good. He says that’s his ministry and he doesn’t feel like it’s work.
