The Visitor – May 3, 2009
Here and There
by Wes Price
I need your help. As I get older, I can’t seem to remember things quite as well as in years past. Perhaps you have noticed that problem yourself (not about me, but about you, yourself).
Quite frequently people will come up to me at meeting time and tell me something that they feel needs to be announced, either from the pulpit or in the bulletin. It is never my intention to disregard the request, but with the failing memory, I need you to write your request down. You can use one of the response cards in the auditorium to do that or on a piece of note paper. That way, I have the information you want announced and I’m relieved of the responsibility of taxing my brain to remember. I apologize for the number of times when you have shared information with me and I have neglected to pass it on. It is never intentional. So PLEASE, write it down. And this is a good course of action for all announcements that you want brother Tom Duvall to read when he begins our worship services. These prayer requests and other requests are vital to our effort to keep everyone informed.
Thank you for understanding and honoring my request.

Some of Jesus’ disciples were fishermen. It was their occupation. On one occasion when they failed to catch any fish, the Lord appeared on the shore and observed their failure. He told them, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught.” Peter responded, “Master, we have toiled all night and have caught nothing. Nevertheless,at your word I will.”(Luke 5:4-5). Their catch was so great that nets began to break! Many people fail to do what God has commanded because they don’t see any sense in it. How different would our lives be if we would just take God at His word and do what He commands. Solomon reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart. And do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowlege Him, and He will make your paths straight.” We are making plans for a renewal of our work with World Bible School this month. It is NOT something that is reserved for only a few members of this congregation, it is something each can do. We need to “launch out into the deep,” and that means every member of this church. While our initial effort will be with students from a foreign country, we will also be placing ads in a local newspaper and putting up banners on our parking lot to solicit prospective students.
Please don’t count yourself out of this effort.
Join Mack Lyon and Phil Sanders on “In Search of the Lord’s Way” on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. On May 10, the topic to be discussed will be “The God Who Understands.” Some folks think of God as so stuck off in heaven He doesn’t understand what is happening in our lives, but is that true? The Bible presents a very different picture of God as one who is intimately acquainted with every person and wanting to help His children through every struggle and trial of life. Join Mack and/or Phil and see if you don’t receive a blessing.

JUST A THOUGHT….
“You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you”.
“REFLECTIONS” – by Jack Armstrong
We were all saddened by the death of our sister in Christ, Bea Dipprey last week, but once again we know that our physical loss was Heaven’s gain, because of the wonderful Christian life she lived right to the very end! Bro. Wes bid her farewell for all of us in his usual caring and loving way. Our hearts are sad for Tom and his family and want them to know we are there for them if we can be of help in any way.
Good news from our grandson, Josh. He has now been fitted for his new leg, and it is supposed to be ready in about 3 or 4 weeks. Thanks once again for all of your love and support and mostly for all of your wonderful prayers on his behalf.
We also received some good news from our dear friend, Jean LaPine. Her daughter, Nancy Ramsey had tests run and was told the size of her malignant tumor has shrunken, and that’s real good! Once again it points out how great it is to have a church family behind you, and to have the backing of prayers from many congregations of God’s church praying on your behalf!
We admire Nancy so much because through all her serious health problems she keeps right on attending church service at the Cedar Hill congregation and looking after her mom who is also having serious health problems. She is a wonderful Christian example to all!
We also found out last Sunday that a dear friend of ours, who many of you know from the old Mt. View congregation lost his mom, Ida Lee White. Jerry and Debbie White spent the last hours with my family at Methodist Hospital when my first wife, Dottie left this world and we all love them like our own children. We are with you in spirit Jerry and Debbie and our hearts go out to you.
Right here at the JBCoC we’ve lost many who we have worshipped with for many years. It’s something we all have to face when the time comes, and that’s also the reason we need to be prepared to meet our maker!
We have been mentioning folks who have been so attentive and caring for their loved ones and in the short space we have left I want to mention a few more. The top of the list begins with Alma Faye for the grand way she has patiently looked after our preacher, David Johnston for Edna Faye Johnston, Ben and Richard Perkins for Ma Perkins, Muriel and Sylvia for the loving care of Carmen, Rita Harrison for looking after Grady Theobalt, the family of Evelyn Dillon looking after her in such a loving way, and since we are out of space we will list more later on.
Maurine we love you, and pray you get stronger real soon.
