The Visitor – May 10, 2009
Here and There
by Wes Price
It will be a privilege this morning to have David Nelson to preach for us. He and his wife Mary are with us for a brief visit in the states from New Zealand. Not only does David preach us a fine sermon when he visits, he brings his own cheering section. A large number of his family from Cedar Hill will be our guests this morning to support and encourage them in their work.
And, congratulations are in order for David. He received his Master’s Dgree from ACU in Abilene.

Sunday morning, May 17, the Search will present a lesson entitled, “There is One Baptism.” The Holy Spirit wrote in Ephesians 4:1-6: “There is one baptism.” Yet, the Bible mentions “the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” “the baptism of John,” “the baptism in water,” etc. Which of these, if any, is that “one baptism” of Ephesians 4:1-6.
Those of you who have been studying with us in the auditorium on the book of Acts will find this to be a review of what we recently studied on this topic, “The baptism of the Holy Spirit.” Check it out and see if I taught you the truth.
You can view this program on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m.

Last Wednesday evening, we began a look at a series of lessons on video entitled “Now That I’m A Christian,” created by Gospel Services. It is the same company that developed the Visualized Bible Study Series that have been so successful in bringing many to a knowledge of the truth and salvation. This series on Now That I’m A Christian, as the title suggests is for new converts. The reason I choose to use it on Wednesday night is to remind those of us who are mature in the faith what went into making us grow in the faith toward maturity. The first lesson was well received and we are accumulating suggestions to provide Gospel Services so that when they revise this series, they will have the benefit of some mature thinking. We hope that more of you will want to come and join us for the remaining four lessons. Lesson Number Two will be shown on Wedesday night, May 20. Come join us and see if you can profit from these valuable lessons.
This coming Wednesday night will be our regular time devoted to singing. Come join us for that delightful time where we sing old songs and try to learn some new ones to add to our repertoire.

“REFLECTIONS” – by Jack Armstrong
In last week’s column I mentioned we were going to start a campaign over at the Ben Franklin store in Duncanville to raise money for “Feed the Children”. We did and it’s going good. The reason I tell you this is to tell you about a delightful visit Oleta and I had on 4/30/09 with Maurine & Helen. When we went in and got our hugs I noticed Maurine had a can in her hand and told us she and Helen had some change for our cause, and lo and behold she and Helen handed me a bag full of coins to go in for the cause. If this goes over good I’m going up to Tom Thumb and Kroger and see if we can do the same there. I said in last week’s story we don’t want any thing to interfere with our church collection, but this is for extra change we might have to drop in at one of the fine stores who will be participating.
My friend, Dan Jasperson over at our favorite drug store has started a little thing that I like very much and want to pass on to you. When he hands someone a sales ticket his clerks also attach a little slip of paper to it which is called “Just a Thought” and I’ll give you one or two to give you an idea of what he is trying to do. Sort of like the little verses I usually use at the end of my column.
“Just A Thought”
“Leaders aren’t born, they are made. They are made by hard effort, which is the price all of us must pay to reach any goal that is worthwhile.”
Also – “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”
And – “You can’t live a perfect day without doiing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”
Dan told me that his store is not just a business venture, but his and Janice’s (his wife) way of bringing folks together and showing that they really care! I want to tell you here and now, they have done it, and set a fine example for their employees and also for all who enter their store!! I’ve never seen a more dedicated group of employees any where that are more caring and considerate than they!
I personally think this same thing applies to our worship services, and all the folks who attend. When visitors come in let them know we truly care and want them to come back every chance they have and invite others to come with them. You know what we always say.. “if each of us brought just one with us, it would double the size of our congregation. Wes and Alma Faye do it, so lets all give them some help and do the same thing! Hand out those little calendars & the House to House brochures. That will be a good start.
