The Visitor – May 22, 2009
Here and There
by Wes Price
The time for Kevin Rhodes visit with us is finally here. He will make a presentation at the Bible class hour to all adult classes on the work of World Bible School and then preach for us at the morning hour.
Remember, that we will be calling for everyone to sign their attendance card with a “YES” in the upper right hand corner to be included in our lunch plans on Saturday, May 30th when Mary Nell Kemper will be telling us about the lessons we will be using for World Bible School students. We need a “head-count” to know how much pizza to order for lunch. That sessioin will be at 12:00 noon and we should finished with Mary Nell’s presentation by 1:30 or 2:00 p.m. depending on how many questions we have for her.
Please don’t leave yourself out until you hear her presentation and see how easily you can become involved in teaching God’s word to a foreign student. You can spend as little as 15 mintues a week or an hour or more depending on how many students you select.

My wife and I have been continuing our Bible lessons with the Cuevas family and their friend Miguel Trevino on Monday nights each week on the series we are using for our own Wednesday night studies. We learned some interesting facts about Angelica and Miguel Cuevas this past week and I think you would want to know. Angelica graduated from Texas Wesleyan University on May 15th and will be looking for a school where she can continue her studies toward a law degree. Her younger brother, Miguel, graduated from El Centro College this past week, with an Associate Degree, and will be graduing from high school on May 30th. No, you read it correctly, he finished an associate degree BEFORE graduating from high school. Our congratulations to both of these fine young people. Miguel Trevino will be entering the University of Texas at Arlington this fall to work toward a degree in English. We want to commend all three of these fine Christians for pursuing higher education.

The church office will be closed on Monday, May 25th to observe Memorial Day.

IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY will be presenting a lesson on “Walking in the Spirit” on Sunday morning, May 31st. Join Mack Lyon and Phil Sanders for this lesson at 7:00 a.m. on Channel 27, KDFI-TV.
The Bible instructs Christians to walk in the Spirit, but what does that mean? Does that mean the Spirit will personally and directly guide our every step? Or could walking with the Spirit mean we are led by the Spirit through the teaching of the Word of God? You will profit by learning the answers to these questions by watching that program.

“REFLECTIONS” – by Jack Armstrong
Well, folks we feel like we’ve been out of service for a couple of months, but really it has only been a couple of weeks.
We sure do appreciate all of the calls and especially your prayers, and it’s our prayer that all of our folks who are having a hard time will be better soon.
I think I failed to mention how happy we all are to have our new memebers here at the JBCoC … Miguel and Angelica Cuevas and Miguel Trevino, as Bro. Wes said in his 4/19/09 article, Miguel and Anelica Cuevas are the grandchildren of Raul and Rosalba Morales and Sandra Cuevas is their daughter. Miguel Trevino is a friend of Angelica. I know you are thinking, this came out in the April 19th Visitor, but I just thought I would mention it again.
Oleta and I mustered up enough strength to go over to the high school on May 15th to hear our DHS Choral Dept. put on a tribute to WWII Veterans, and they were just great. They even flashed my ‘ol mug on the screen 2 or 3 times for my service in the war. While there we saw Charles Ward and David Vehon and his wife, since David was once the Choir Director at Duncanville High School.
