The Visitor – October 18, 2009
HERE AND THERE
by Wes Price
We had 32 present Sunday afternoon following the worship services for our “Sack Supper”. And since we had three present celebrating birthdays, we used the occasion to honor them. Two of our ladies baked cakes, Billie Thompson and Ruth Manning. Our thanks to them for that special effort. Our birthday honorees were Royal Smith, Jimmy Mooney and Louise Gerner.
Our next social event will be on Saturday morning, October 31, at 9:00 a.m. when we will be serving another delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy. We hope that Vernon Percival will be able to be with us for another round of his good gravy. The purpose of this breakfast is to invite all who want to enjoy a good meal, but also to have a time when we can bring all our old records that need to be shredded and kept safe from those who are in the business of stealing identities. We have arranged for a truck to be here at our building at 10:00 a.m. to do the shredding for us. The best part of this is that we will be able to observe our records (bank statements, financial statements, bills and other documents that are out of date) being put into the shredder with no possibility of them falling into the wrong hands. So begin now pulling out all your old records and for accounting purposes, (a safe date would be anything over 10 years old) and box them up to bring to the building with you on Saturday morning, October 31. You do NOT have to worry about paper clips, staples or plastic edge binders, the shredder will make quick destruction of all these. Please do NOT bring notebook binders, they will not be accepted. We do not yet know what the cost will be, but the church will bear the lion’s share, since we have the most to shred; but we will ask for each one who brings documents to share in some of the cost. ——————-
On Sunday morning, October 25, IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY will present a lesson on “The Church Jesus Built.” Join Mack and Phil at 7:00 a.m. on Channel 27, KDFI-TV for this program. At the very mention of “church” some people think of a building down the street. Others think of an institution with a headquarters and officials. Others think of the denomination they grew up attending. Most Americans think one can be saved and not be a member of any church. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY! Tune in and find out! ============================================

GROCERY DRIVE Tuesday, NOVEMBER 3, 2009 CHRIST’S HAVEN FOR CHILDREN

I walked out in the morning as the sun began to rise and saw the hand of God wipe the darkness from the skies. In silent admiration I bowed my head in prayer and gave thanks to the One that gives us light and that He is always there. As the morning deepened and the light came through the trees I felt the presence of the Lord in the warm and gentle breeze. I said Oh Lord I thank you for giving me this day. I know that only you can take the dark of night away. Please fill my day with sunshine, my soul with inner peace and as I walk with you today let all my strivings cease and when this day has ended and I lay down in peaceful rest I hope and pray my walk with you has helped me pass the test so when my eye lids open to a day that is fresh and now I pray that once again you will let me walk with you. Jacob Locke, December 28, 2007.

REFLECTIONS
by Jack Armstrong
Oleta and I went over to see sweet Edna Faye Johnston earlier this week, and she was having a sleepy day, so David said it may be better to come back another day for a visit. I talked to Bro. Wes today and he said he had just visited her 10/7/09 and she was doing a lot better. I think he helped her eat lunch. He went over to see how Bobbie Vivrett was doing and wound up taking she and Helen Jones to lunch. I told him he gets around more than any guy I know. Bobbie has been having back trouble and we sure do miss her when she is not at church service. Things don’t look natural on that west side back row without Bobbie, Fran, and Linda back there.
We pray Mary Ruth has good results from her new boot the doctor prescribed for her cracked ankle. Thank the Good Lord it wasn’t a worse break!
We spoke to dear Addie this week and she is having a rough time getting used to the assisted living facility she is in, and the fact she had to give up her car and her home. Addie did agree with the doctor that it was for the best since she was having small strokes. She told me her oldest granddaughter LeAnne’s husband, Joe Garber had his gall bladder removed and is having some real bad health problems after the surgery, and wants us to keep them all in our prayers. I just can’t believe little LeAnne is now 35 years old. It seems like only yesterday she was a little tot. Boy, time sure does fly by when we get a few years under our belt, right Jacob? He is now a member of the Octogenarian bunch like me and several of you, and we won’t mention any more names, for safety’s sake.
If you haven’t done it already, ask Ruth Manning to show you her brand new “Recipe Book” that has just been published. They are just great. Oleta ordered a bunch to send our kids. Oleta, Betty Thornton, Helen Jones, Nadine Brown, Henrietta Pummill, Peggy Wolfe, and Ruth all have recipes in the book. Lots of good recipes! By the way she didn’t get around to all of you ladies because she ran out of time. If anyone is interested in publishing their family recipes check with Ruth on how to do it.
