The Visitor – February 21, 2010
Here and There
by Wes Price
There were forty-two of us who joined together Sunday night to say a fond farewell to Royal Smith and Jean Lovell. We were sorry that Jean could not be with us, but none-the-less we expressed our best to her in her new home. These two will be missed in more ways than one. Their sterling example of attendance will stand out in our memory. They were present for every Bible study, worship, fellowship, funeral or other church event. Royal blessed us with his great song-leading ability and Jean was always ready to help serve whenever we had a fellowship for a grieving family. We thank God for blessing our lives with these two and pray that He will continue to keep them busy in His kingdom wherever they choose to worship. We will look forward to having them back for visits to keep their memory alive.

It was a real joy Sunday morning to welcome Steve and Haleigh Kloetzli who came to tell us of their desire to have our best wishes as they begin a new phase of their spiritual life worshiping with the Bedford Road church in Bedford. We had a special prayer for them and thanked them for sharing their new plans with us. We are especially pleased that Haleigh will have a good youth group at that congregation where Spencer Ross is the Youth Minister.
Haleigh informed us that she will be performing in her High School musical again this year and she will be the star performer. The musical is The Wizard of Oz and she is playing the part of Dorothy. It will be performed on the evenings of April 8, 9, and 10 at the Nimitz High School in Irving. Let’s make a date and go see the performance.

Royal left us a box full of books entitled, Editorially Speaking, written and edited by his uncle, Foy L. Smith. They will be on the table in the foyer as well as in our Community Room. I believe you will profit by spending time reading these short timely articles. Pick one up and enjoy it. ——–
My wife and I will be away from you today enjoying a visit to the Preachers Lectureship held in Oklahoma City at the North MacArthur church. We have been invited to stay with Mack and Lois Lyon and needless to say, we are excited about visiting with such distinguished folks. Please pray for our safe return on Sunday night.
In my absence. Paul Delgado will be teaching my Sunday morning Bible class and preaching at the morning worship service. Roger Owen will be filling in for me at the Sunday afternoon worship service. I know you will be well fed with good spiritual food in my absence. ————-
On Sunday morning, February 28, IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY, the lesson will be “Preach “ON” Love “WITH” Love?” Mack writes, “I have no regrets for not preaching more about Love. I do regret that in the first several years of my preaching, although I preached often “about” love, I did not always preach “with” love. I learned better from such men as C. E. McGaughey, Hugo McCord and Batsell Barrett Baxter, Jr. Join him for this lesson on Channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00 a.m.

The family of Lewis Hinton would like to thank Jefferson Blvd. Church of Christ for the lovely flowers and food provided for lunch. It was such a comfort knowing lunch was being provided. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed it. I’d also like to thank everyone for all the cards, visits and prayers during daddy’s illness. We feel so blessed to belong to such a loving congregation. Love, Rick and Rhonda
“Reflections” by Jack Armstrong
I was sitting at my desk looking out the window on the 11th day of February watching the snow coming down, and what a beautiful sight it was. A bunch of kids were running down the street to catch the school bus, yelling and having a ball.
Oleta and I went to visitation on Friday to pay our respects to our dear friend Jim Boyd who lost his wife, Nevelle last week who was our neighbor for over 10 years, and we loved them both dearly. While there we saw a line at Jaynes Funeral Home that stretched up and down the sidewalk, and inside they were packed from wall to wall. Part of the crowd was there to see Nevelle, but the majority were there for Steve Phillips from the Cedar Hill Church of Christ. He and his dad owned the Phillips Lumber Co. and were in all kinds of civic leadership roles. He was a deacon in the church for many years and Phil was an elder.
It sure is good to see Vera, Magdalena and their family back, along with Albert and Cynthia and their crew. Now if we could just get the Galvans to join us again, it would be like old times. We sure do miss Felix and Rosa Gonzales and David. We also miss Steve and Haleigh Kloetzli, but we know folks have to do what they feel is best.
I talked to Fay Hartsell on Sunday about Bill Hinton, and she said he is not doing very good. Let’s keep Bill and all the Hintons in our prayers along with Rick and Rhonda and all their family. They are all a very important part of our congregation!
Thank you Cookie for your kind comments on my articles. I really do appreciate it.
One of these days maybe I’ll catch up with Bro. Wes, but I will never have the use of words like that guy has. He knows the right thing to say on every occasion; guess it’s all that learning he’s soaked up all these years.
