The Visitor – March 7, 2010

Here and There by Wes Price
Thank you for all your prayers and expressions of concern this past week during my illness. It took longer to get over it this time and I hope that’s not just because I’m getting older. How about that Perry Cotham? I called him at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to see if he could rescue me and after great effort I finally managed to make him understand what I was asking for – his poor hearing you know. I’m so very grateful for such a friend as he. And my thanks also to Albert Cerna who preached to you on Sunday evening and brought his own cheering section. I’m certainly looking forward to being in the pulpit this morning and we will be preaching a lesson on the church. I hope you have read or at least are reading the book by Batsell Barrett Baxter on the Family of God. It will be most helpful for you to key in to these few lessons on the church.

We concluded our studies in the book of Hebrews this past Wednesday evening and our next study will take us to the book of Ephesians with Avon Malone as the teacher. We will begin this study on Wednesday evening, March 17th. We hope you will want to join us for this new study. The first assignment will be to read the book of Ephesians through twice, using two different translations. If you don’t have but one, perhaps you can check a different translation out of the library for this purpose. Lesson sheets will be provided with each lesson we do. If you haven’t been coming, try it, you’ll like it!

Join Mack Lyon and Phil Sanders for their lesson on “God Loves Us,” set for Sunday morning, March 14, at 7:00 a.m. on Channel 27, KDFI-TV. God’s amazing love can fill our lives with joy and meaning. Paul prayed that the saints would be rooted and grounded in the love of God which surpasses knowledge. Realizing the love of God can transform our lives and bring us the greatest joy we’ve ever known.

IS ONE JUST AS GOOD
AS ANOTHER?

When you were seeking a wife – Was one just as good as another?
When you last called a doctor – Was one just as good as another?
When he gave a dose of medicine – Was one dose as good as another?
When the pharmacist filled your prescription – Was one ingredient as good as another?
When you paid the cashier – Was one amount just as good as another?
When you took your wife to the hospital – Was one baby just as good as another?
When the Realtor handed you the deed – Was one just as good as another?
When the bank gave you your statement – Was one just as good as the other?
When you went to get into your car – Was one just as good as another?
When you caught a bus or train – Was one just as good as another?

When Christ shed His blood for HIS CHURCH –
How can another be as good as it A Christian’s Voice, Bill Sexton

“REFLECTIONS”
by Jack Armstrong
Last Sunday Oleta and I visited Richard and Ben’s class to see what was going on over there, and you know that ‘ol saying – “When the cat’s away, the mice will play.” We really enjoyed the class as Richard does a fine job of teaching as I’m sure his brother, Ben does also. What did we ever do before they came over to be with us. Ma Perkins and her boys (and I use that word loosely) are a very important part of this congregation. While handing out thanks, we want to thank Rick Ramsey for the fine way he has handled our announcements while Tom Duvall has had to take things a little easier for a while. We have so many folks here at the JBCoC who do so much, it’s hard to leave anyone off, but we can’t list than all at one time. Bro. Jacob is almost always there to lead our singing, and what a marvelous, spirited way he does it, even an ‘ol deaf ear like me is able to join in. We enjoy the speakers Bro. Wes brings in when he’s away, and we know the young fellows need the experience, but it sure is good to have our #1 man back in the pulpit and class. I’m writing this on Friday a.m. and looking out my office window and it looks as though it might rain any minute, but at least they are not calling for snow. I think we’ve had enough of that for the year We pray that all is going well for Royal and Jean in their new locations and that they find church homes with lots of loving folks like all of you. I’ve never been any where that we’ve felt more at home than right here at the JBCoC. We’ll see you next time the Good Lord willing. We pray all of our sick and shut-ins are doing much better. Let’s all remember Bill Hinton in our prayers as he is having a tough time. Remember what ‘ol Bro. George Bailey always says… We’ve all got to shoot far…
