The Visitor – November 28, 2010
Here and There by Wes Price
We hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with your family. This year, our children were guests on the other side of the family, so we were left alone. But, not so! When Roger and Linda found out tht we would be alone on that day, they invited us to join them at their home in Garland. What a wonderful pleasure that was! And to add to the joy, Daniel Ho also went with us to enjoy the Owen’s hospitality. Thank God for the bounty of Christian friends who have experienced the warmth and affection of our spiritual family and who have learned how to return that love by loving others. ————-
Your elders want to express their thanks to you for your indulgence with regard to the time of evening services. This time, a decided margin was received from the members and it was overwhelmingly in favor of the 4:00 p.m.service. So…….. on Sunday, December 5, remember to set your clocks for a 4:00 p.m. worship service. Yes, we did make sure that this would not impact the Owens for their journey from Garland pn Sunday afternoons and they were fullly accepting of this time change. ————-
A week or so ago, some of our members reaped a harvest of medical equipment at an estate sale and the church now has several appliances which are available to any of you who need it; wheel chairs, potty chairs, shower stools, walkers, and walking sticks. The items were brought to the building by Jo Morris, but I understand that there were others who also provided money for the purchases. I tried to get Jo to let the church refund the cost and her response was “You can’t pay for a gift!” What a lovely attitude. ————-
I’m looking forward to preaching for you this morning. I hope you will profit by it and if you get only half of what I got from the preparation, you will be blessed. ————-
Be sure to join Mack Lyon and Phil Sanders for the program, In Search of the Lord’s Way, on Sunday morning each week on KDFI-TV, on Channel 27, at 7:00 a.m. Last week, I called Mack on the occasion of his 89th birthday. Way to go Mack! ————-
We need your reservation for the Holiday Party, set for Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. Even if you don’t have the money in hand, we want everyone to come. We have several generous people who have paid for others, so we don’t want to leave anyone out. Just be sure your name is on the list. ===========================================================================
A PROMISE SEEKING FULFILLMENT
How beautiful is the morning of life. An immortal soul commences its existence. The infant is welcomed with joy, and the parents are congratulated by friends and neighbors. How can you describe the delight that fills the heart of mother and father alike?
In a very old book I read the following words:
Infants are the poetry of the world; the fresh flowers of
our hearts and homes; little conjurers, with the magic of their natural ways, working by their spells what delights and enriches all ranks and equalizes the different classes of society. Every infant comes into the world, like a delegated prophet, the harbinger and herald of good tidings, whose office it is to make young again hearts well-nigh wearied with the cares of years. A child warms and softens the heart by its gently presence; it enriches the soul by new feeling, and it awakens within it what is favorable to virtue. An infant is a beam of light, a fountain of love, a teacher, whose lessons few can resist. They recall us from much that engenders and encourages selfishness, that freezes the affection, roughens the manners, and indurates the heart. They brighten the home, deepen love, invigorate exertion, infuse courage, and vivify and sustain the charities of life.
At this moment the child’s soul is as pure as the driven snow – beautiful as a cherub angel, spotless, guileless, and innocent. And parents begin their great work of molding an immortal soul. Be careful now of how you speak, and guard the way you act, for little eyes are quick to perceive. Now is the time to remember the words of Jesus: “Let the children come to me; do not try to stop them “ (Mark 10:14).

“Looking Forward” by Jack Armstrong
We all had a scare last Sunday morning when Bro. Wes had a flare up from some medication he had taken that morning that conflicted with his other meds. We are so glad he is going good again! We just pray he will continue to take it easier for a while longer, and not rush into his old schedule too fast.
By the way, our grandson Jason, and his buddy Cody Brown, sent the Care Packages, $10,000 and $50,000 that was donated for their cause. We are so proud of them, and I know the Marines will really appreciate the gifts and the thoughts behind them. Thanks again for the help from Connie Ashley and her son, Jonathan.
We are so glad to have Rita Harrison’s sister with us again for a while and also to have Janis Harjo join us here at the JBCoC.
I send my son, Larry, a copy of our Visitor every week and he sure likes to keep up with what is going on. He told me he can tell what kind of a mood I’m in by the way my column goes. I didn’t know I was so obvious in my moods. So guess I best be careful what I write.
Our absentee list was shorter on November 14, but we all want to remember… Charlie Brown, Jennie Wright, Mary Perkins, the Bell family, Henrietta Pummil, Rick Theobalt (son of Grady), Rick Ramsey (that he stays free of the Big “C”), and Jimmy Mooney, and all on our regular prayer list.
It was good to see Wes and James serving on the Lord’s Table and the remarks before our Communion service helped for all of us to get in the right frame of mind. I know all of our coordinators are glad to have anyone who is available to help out, because we are running short of help.
The sheets that Bro. Roger handed out on Sunday afternoon were really great and I hope and pray we can put them to good use, in our neighborhood, and everywhere we do business.
