The Visitor – January 15, 2012
Here and There
by Wes Price
Let me give you my heart-felt thanks for your response to the memorial services this past week of David Johnston and John Chester Rowland. Your presence at those memorial services meant so very much to the families and no doubt will have long lasting results.
I received a lovely thank you note this past week from David’s uncle, Bobby Johnston expressing the family’s gratitude for all we did for the family in this time of grief. The note was accompanied with a generous donation to our memorial fund in David’s memory.

We are back to square one with Rick Ramsey. He began another round of cancer treatments this past Wednesday, so I encourage you to keep him in your prayers daily.
——————-
Our new daily Bible reading effort is off and running. We had a larger than usual crowd at our Bible study last Wednesday evening. Why don’t you get in on a good thing and not only follow the lead of many in reading from the Daily Bible, but increase its value to you by coming for study on those passages on Wednesday evenings?
——————-
Thank you for your concern for our daughter Kathy Berry. Her surgery went well on Friday the 13th and she is now at home and doing well. Thanks to Rick Ramsey for serving as a taxi driver and taking my son-in-law to the airport and our grandson to the Davis St. congregation for a church outing.
——————
We will be having that brief church business meeting tonight following our worship service, but don’t let that keep you from coming to the 5:00 p.m. worship service.
—————–
We extend the church’s sympathy to the families of Angie Sabedra who passed away last week. Her memorial service was held on Saturday at the Freetown Road church.

Thanks to Linda Owen for her reminder and suggestion that all who own cell phones, these cell phones are now subject to all kinds of solicitation calls. In order to prevent this, you need to call 1-888-382-1222 and ask that your number be blocked from such calls. You must call that number on the phone you want blocked and it will remain effective for 5 years. It will take about 30 days before it will be effective.

Phil Sanders’ message this coming Sunday, January 22, will be “Not Too Hard.” Join him on channel 27, KDFI-TV at 7:00a.m.

We already have had responses from the recent mail-out of House To House, Heart to Heart. We have extra copies available for you to use for your friends. We also have new brochures from them in our display racks for you to use to give to your acquaintances .

“Looking Forward” by Jack Armstrong
Folks, I would like to continue what Bro. Jacob started in keeping our beloved Rick Ramsey in our prayers daily, that his problem with his health will go away. Jacob’s prayer was short and to the point, and said what we all feel!
Sometimes a person shows up in our congregation that effects us all in one way or another. Rick is one of those and is the example for us all. He is always there ready to serve, and to help out anyone who needs it.
I noticed in our “Vital Signs” that our attendance was down on 1/1/2012, and our contribution was also down. When we have to miss services we should all try to make it up, because our expenses go on whether we are there or not.
We have really been missing the Schoolfields, and pray that things are much better for them, and also for Vernon and Mary Ruth Percival who are missed sorely when they are out. Let us all keep those on our sick list in our daily prayers! We also want to keep our folks in the military in our prayers that they all have safe returns home soon. We want to let Rita Wood know we are missing her and want her to visit with us when she can. She is a very special lady and we all love her dearly.
Sitting here at my desk writing this article I think, what has happened to our attendance here at the JBCoC? On the first we had 50 there, and it seems not too long ago we had 85 or 90 in attendance. I know some have passed away, and some have moved, but 50 sounds like a small number. Let us all work to build up the attendance.
Folks, since there isn’t much news to write about, guess we’ll close for now, and we’ll see you next time the Good Lord Willing.
Remember we love you all.
Jack and Oleta
