Here and There
by Wes Price

We extend our sympathy to the family of James Couch, who passed away last week. His funeral, a graveside service, is scheduled at the DFW National Cemetery, February 15. The funeral arrangements are with the Dalton Funeral Home of Lewisville. Jim died just a few days before his and Ada’s 70th wedding anniversary.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early in order to find out which line you need to be in before traveling to the graveside service. There are usually several Funeral Home directors available to help people find the right line.

We will still postpone our party for Daiselle’s 97th birthday party until we can be sure of her being able to attend. She is making progress, but still no date has been mentioned about her being discharged from Presbyterian Village. Keep praying for her.
——————–
It was such a joy to be with Ruby Faas’ family and friends last Saturday for her memorial service at the Brentwood church in Ft. Worth. And I was so pleased that the family liked the service.
——————–
Today we will have David Tarbet speaking to us both at the morning Bible study class and the morning worship. We welcome him and his lovely wife, Paula, for a long over due visit. They will be leaving the states in a few days to travel with their daughter on a trip to Russia, where she will adopt a child to bring home. Let’s keep all

Here and There, cont.

these in our prayers.

On Feb. 17th, Phil Sanders’ message on The Search, will be “Freewill.” He writes: “Some say God has chosen from eternity past those who will be saved and those who will be lost, while others say man has freewill and can choose whether he will serve God. What does the Bible say about the freewill of man?”
Join him for this message on Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. on Channel 27, KDFI.

Our Wednesday night studies are great! If you haven’t been coming, you have been missing a real in depth look at the Old Testament. We are recording the lessons from Roger, but don’t let that be an excuse for you not to be present. The recording will not pick up all the questions and comments that class members make.

“Looking Forward”
We hear folks coming up with all kinds of reasons (excuses) why they couldn’t make it to the church services, and Oleta and I are talking this morning about how some of us really did have some obstacles to overcome, as I’m sure some folks do now. When we were young, we lived out in the country on a farm, and when it rained we had a long lane in front of our house that led to the highway. It wasn’t paved, so we had weeds and snow to contend with. I’m not complaining, just wanted all to know that back in the “good ol’ days” we had some problems, too. We didn’t have air conditioners, only had to raise all the windows in summer, and throw more wood in the old pot bellied stove in winter; but you know, back then the pews were all full, and the sermons went for an hour or more!
This past Saturday, “Elvis” was in the house over at the Ben Franklin store here in Duncanville. The store was really full, and the guy did a great job of impersonating Elvis Presley. He told Oleta and me at lunch that he was booked several months in advance. It’s odd that a guy can still draw large crowds years after he passes away. Isn’t it odd that we can’t get crowds like that to come out, and pay tribute to the greatest man of all time, our blessed Lord!!!
The reason we see large crowds at the mega churches this day and time is the type of entertainment they have on the stage. Folks seem to want more and more entertainment instead of the truth.
My son Jack sent me some notes from God’s Minute on the internet. A Sunday School teacher had children write to God. A child wrote:
“Dear God, Thank you for my baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.”
Another wrote:
“Dear God, Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.”
We’ll see you later, the Good Lord willing.
Remember . . . “Whatever you are, be a good one!” We love you all. Jack and Oleta
