The Visitor – Nov. 18, 2007

Here and There
by Wes Price
It is time for you to sign up for our Holiday Party scheduled for Saturday, December 8, at 2:00 p.m. The cost will be $12.00 per person. Please call the church office and make your reservations. Please bring a friend.
It is with pleasure that I announce to you that our entertainment will be provided by Joe Hancock. He plays a smooth guitar and will regal us with a feast of good traditional, country western music. Most of us will remember him being with us in the past. He also will be preaching for us on the following Sunday morning. His lovely wife, Sharon will be coming with him and we will enjoy a great weekend.
————
Thanks to Paul Lawrence’s filling in for us, my wife and I enjoyed traveling to Oklahoma City where I attended a one day lecture at Oklahoma Christian. We had the privilege of spending the night with Mack and Lois Lyon and enjoying the fellowship with them and other friends whom we loved dearly when we lived in Oklahoma City.
The speaker for the preachers session was Neil Lightfoot, the author of the series, “How We Got Our Bible.” He made a power point DVD available to all the preachers present and I hope to be able to share that with you sometime soon.
This past week, the elders of the Edmond church in Edmond, Oklahoma interviewed a potential replacement for Mack on “In Search of the Lord’s Way.” We mention this to ask for your prayers on behalf of this process and for the man being considered, that God will add His blessings to this effort.
While this does not mean a sudden end to Mack’s continuing to be the primary speaker on The Search, it does mean that he is preparing for the time when it will be necessary for him to turn the work over to a younger man. Finding the right man, then is of prime importance. Please
keep that ministry in your prayers.

“REFLECTIONS”
by Jack Armstrong

Our day was made brighter this past Lord’s day when we saw our sweet Mary Perkins back with us. Have you noticed when some folks are out things just are not going along as smoothly as usual, and that an important part is missing? Well that’s just the way it is when Mary Perkins, Carmen McMillion, Ada Couch, the Henry’s, Jo Morris, Fran Womelsdorff and any of our other regulars are out.
We are all going to miss brother Roy Holland’s presence, since he had become one of us in the past months, and we will miss the fine sermons he brought us every now and then. Thank the Lord he left behind a fine son, Jonathan to carry on his legacy of fine preaching. He is a wonderful young man and had a beautiful wife to help him in his ministry. Not only is she beautiful to look at but her beauty shows from the inside as well, as was evidenced by the way they handle those young people they spend so much time with. What a grand example they set for those kids to live by! Wouldn’t it be a great world to live in if we had more young folks like the Hollands to set the standard for all of our young to live by.
This is a little out of context for our Visitor but have you noticed how good it is on the “Tube” since all the writer’s are off on strike and all the trash shows like Letterman, Leno and all the other foul mouthed stuff that comes on live
are off!
I know I wish they would go back to all the old fashion cowboys and Indians and the great family shows we used to watch like the “Waltons”, “Father Knows Best”, “Leave it to Beaver”, Andy Griffith, etc. and not have to worry about all the drinking, sex scenes, murder and mayhem and all the other mess they show on the “Boob Tube” these days.
I know our preacher has to be mentally worn out after this past week, and all the funeral services he had to attend and preside over. Wes said in his column it was a sad day at the JBCoC because we lost some of our dear friends who went to the place they had worked so long and hard to be, with the Lord! Our consolation is that, our great loss will be Heaven’s gain! Our hearts go out to Dan & Eugenia, Stan & Lisa Brown, the family of Merlin Faulkner and the Holland family.
It was so good to have Bill Werner to direct our song service while brother Jacob was away.
Vertie Lee we are missing you and Connie, come see us when you’re able! C.B. & Doris you are sorely missed and hope and pray you are much improved, same goes for you too, Carmen McMillion. We love you all!
Well folks, guess that’s all for now, we ‘ll see you next time the Good Lord willin’. Hope all is good for all who can’t be with us. We love you & miss you!
